Mine Train over the lake at Six Flags Great Adventure

The Park

Six Flags Great Adventure is a huge amusement park located in central New Jersey with easy access from New York City, Trenton, Philadelphia and Wilmington. Also on site is a large new waterpark and the Wild Safari Animal Park.

Six Flags Great Adventure is a Theme Park and the many of the rides carry a theme, most are either cartoon or movie related.

Character CafeThe park is spread out over a large and mostly wooded area with fairly flat terrain. The entrance is near the center with most of the ride areas spreading out to the left and right sides. Several of the buildings are very ornate. Six Flags features the Looney Tunes™ characters which can be seen at various places in the park and the merchandise shops are filled with Looney Tunes products.

There is a lot to see and do here, and riding every ride will probably take more than a single day. On summer weekends, the wait for rides can be fairly long so a mid week visit might be the best choice if possible.

Rides

MedusaSix Flags Great Adventure has one of the largest ride inventories in the world, adding over a dozen just for the 1999 season. They have a wide mix of rides to please just about anyone from kiddie rides to the latest roller coaster thrills.

New for 2001 is Nitro™, a B&M Hyper coaster. See the Nitro page for more information

Batman The RideThe not to be missed rides include Medusa, added in 1999 as the world's first floorless roller coaster built by B&M and Batman The Ride™ which was one of the first inverted roller coasters, also built by B&M. Wood coasters are represented by Rolling Thunder, a large dual track racing coaster.

Skull MountainOther roller coasters include the Great American Scream Machine, an Arrow designed multi inversion steel coaster, Viper which is a heartline coaster from Togo and Skull Mountain, an indoor coaster.

Batman™ and Robin™ The Chiller is a steel dual track (blue track is Batman and red is Robin) Linear Induction Motor (LIM) launched coaster which accelerates from 0 to 70 in less than four seconds. The Runaway Mine Train is also a fun ride.

Movietown Water Effect (chutes) rideSix Flags Great Adventure is also home to Stuntman's Freefall, one of the original freefall rides. The Parachute Training Center, Edwards AFB Jump Tower (Parachute Drop) is another ride not seen in many parks, at least not many as big as this one. Sticking with big for the moment, the park has a 150 foot Ferris Wheel called the Big Wheel which towers well above the treetops. Another fun ride which is disappearing from other parks is the Rotor, known here as the Taz Twister. Add in all the water rides and ones that spin, twist and turn and there is something for everyone.

For additional ride information, please see the Photo Gallery (upper right on this page or the Six Flags Great Adventure web site.
