Take a smooth inverted coaster, the idea of a shuttle loop (sans loop) and add LIM technology and you get Superman Ultimate Escape,  which is  the first US installation of an Intamin Impulse Coaster.  Basically, it is an inverted coaster that goes back and forth a few times while being propelled faster the first couple times by it's Linear Induction Motors or LIMs.

After hopping up to your seat (they sit above the floor higher than most inverted coasters) and getting strapped in, you await the launch. Suddenly the train quickly accelerates forward and flies part way up the twisted spire. You than fall backward through the station and climb the straight point. The front seat rider is facing straight down.

Next, you fall forward, fly through the station again picking up more speed and this time go nearly to the top of the twisted point. Front seat riders will get the feeling they are going right off the end while twisting up the spire. Again, you fall backward through the station and up the straight end but this time the train hangs a second or two just to keep things interesting.

Finally, you fall forward, through the station and travel a little ways up the twisted end. You then coast back to the station for a very smooth stop courtesy of Intamin's super smooth magnetic braking. A ride on Superman Ultimate Escape is like no other and is best experienced from the front seat. Also try riding at night as well. What a rush!

Superman Ultimate Escape was built by Intamin and achieves 70MPH during it's 2700 foot course. The tallest point is 180 feet.

Three views of just how close the train gets to the end of the spiral. The apparent illusion of going right off the end is amazing from the front seat.
